Balga House
Point Lonsdale, Victoria
This is a coastal house situated in Point Lonsdale within the ever present drama of the heads of Port Phillip Bay. Architecturally, we aimed to functionally mimic the role of the headlands by setting up a dramatic entrance that both guards and delivers you into the calm lawn of family life.
When looking for a formal language to inspire this project we noted both the dramatic natural land forms and the way the man made structures in this landscape have assumed a monumental nature of their own. The singular black lighthouse is paid homage to in the black clad retreat.
The one tree that was removed has been remembered in the pattern of the fireplace and the awning. Both are reworked digital versions of a photo of that tree.
